I plan on picking up a Nexus 6 and a new tablet. I've never really found much use for a tablet but I'm going abroad and need to take one. It seems kind of pointless to take a 7 inch tablet if you own a 6 inch phone.

Does anyone who owns both find the tablet useful?

Although I own neither device, I would honestly say that having a phablet and a 7" tablet (only an inch difference between the 2) would be wasting your money. The Nexus 6 is faster, has more screen pixel density, has more RAM, has a better camera, but you're only sacrificing an inch in screen size. Plus Google updates would be a first for both devices. You would see more benefit having a smaller phone and a 7" tablet, or a Nexus 6 and let's say a 10" tablet.

Just my advise, of course, but I certainly would not contemplate both that you are planning to purchase.

Agree with that. Since owning my Nexus 6, my Nexus 7 is now stored. Besides my Nexus 7 2012 performs bad with lollipop, with Kit Kat was great.

Since I got the Nexus 6 I don't use my Nexus 7 at all, my seven year old uses that but full time..... I've found watching movies on the Nexus 6 to be a better experience with the speakers and screen.....

I have both, and still use my N7 primary when I'm at home. The 1in screen really makes a difference when reading or watching youtube, my opinion of course.

I still use my 7 a lot, especially out in the shop or back yard or such, reading, netflix, etc.
The size difference is still apparent imo, and the N7 is worth a heck of a lot less $ than the N6
so it gets more hazardous duty. If I didn't have the 7 I'd buy something else, it's still about the
    perfect tablet imo.

I still use my Nexus 7 when lying around the house and when I travel. The battery life can't be beat.

I have an N6 and my family has 3 N7's (a 2012 and two 2013's). I use my N7 all the time at home. As others have said, that 1" in screen size makes a big difference.

I also still use my N7 (2013) quite a lot even though I now own an N6. I use it at home, on the bus and the subway.

I use my N6 for all other situations. The extra real estate on the 7" is still good to have every once in a while, depending on what you're doing.

I upgraded from n7 to a n9 because I needed something better for viewing documents and PDFs. Reading through 50 page docs got a little cumbersome on the n7. I also use it when making presentations, basically much better work tablet than n7.

When I got my n6 the n9 became an expensive doc viewer(I'm exaggerating). In other words the n6 almost fully replaces the n7 to the point that the n9 only gets used for work.

I ran with an iPad mini for half year and used it massively. As soon as the N6 came into play, it soon became useless...that's why I gave it to my mother for her work...a 7' isn't worth the £ if you have the N6

I find that I no longer reach for my N7 at home. Now my daughter mainly uses it.

Whether or not it makes a big difference, is a matter of personal opinion, of course. While I did have the Nexus 7 for a while, I can't justify going out and buying one again, (unless it was dirt cheap) when I have the Nexus 6. I can understand defending it when you already have one, but I doubt many Nexus 6 users are eager to get a Nexus 7. Sure it makes a difference. Just like going from a Nexus 5 to the 6. It's noticeable. But not enough to make me open my wallet yet again.

If we're talking 10" tablets, then that's a different animal. I would love to have a high end 10 inch to play pinball on. But I can't afford it right now. So for now, I have 2X reading glasses, and enjoy my small tablet known as the Nexus 6. But a 7" tablet is not even a consideration.

I use my Nexus 7 (I have both 2012 & 2013 versions) and iPad Mini 2 (8") just as much since getting a Nexus 6. As others have said, the extra 1" is worth something. That said, there's something about the front speakers on the Nexus 6 that is nice though.

OP, note everyone here still using an N7 with an N6 already had one. No one is advocating buying both. That would be stupid.
