    Good morning,

I attempted to upgrade to 6.0 and bricked my N6. I've followed everything I've been able to find here and online and can't figure it out. When using Nexus Root Toolkit and trying to go back to 5.1.1 or 6.0 when I click Flash Stock + Unroot when the black screen comes up it says "FAILED (remote failure)" over and over again.

From what I've read it means I'm not actually unlocked, however when I click Unlock Bootloader in Nexus Root Toolkit and it reboots my phone it sits for 30+ minutes with the swirling dots and does nothing.

I'm using a Win 10 machine if that matters. I'll keep trying to find a solution that I can understand, please help.

You rock! Found how to recover and I'm back to 5.1.1 and downloading apps and restoring my layout. Thank you!

The first time flashing I suggest using adb that way you know what you are doing. Using a tool kit is easier but knowing how to use adb is good in case something goes wrong.

Next time I will, if I ever get the guts up to try again that is.

Yeah learn the adb commands first then use a toolkit, just in case.

Yes. The native tools are best. Even better on Mac or Linux... No wacky driver headaches.

I tried and failed numerous times when I tried to unlock bootloader and root my Nexus 7. Turned out it was a bad data cable that was to blame. I've unrooted and rerooted a lot since then.

The data cable was old, could be it. If I get brave/bored enough again one day maybe I'll try.

Just in case of a soft brick I made a script that all I have to do is open it and it will flash 5.1.1 back to my Nexus 7 2013. Might be a good idea.

There are also plenty of programs that will help you make a bat file that will do that. I have a bunch that date back to 4.3 lol.

    adb/fastboot is pretty easy

    1. go to adb in cmd
    2. fastboot devices
    3. unlock the bootloader
    4. reboot into bootloader
    5. try the flash-all batch file
    6. if that fails, reboot into bootloader
    7. flash radio, reboot into bootloader
    8. unzip image and extract it into a folder that is named the same (to prevent confusion)
    9. flash all of those images in order. after you flash each one, reboot into bootloader.

when you're flashing everything, everything is named the same. so if you're flashing a recovery, you put fastboot flash recovery C:\blablsfdagjklawejficvhucdbjgkrwe\recovery.img also the location you can just drag and drop from file explorer

    have fun
