I am also stuck here. I have done this 3-4 times and I get stuck here everytime. I have waited like 30+ minutes everytime, so I am assuming that is pretty long and something isn't going right.

Not sure what to do... :-/

See my post above... not sure why you guys are having this trouble exactly, but my suggestions may work. I'll see if I can dig up some more info as well if I can find the time this afternoon...

I think I might try to boot it up and see if the OS takes care of it like you said. I am assuming after trying this like 5 times it might have deleted some things, so I will let this run for another 5 or so minutes then stop it. I will post results when I do.

Actually, should I run step 8 again to get the files downloaded and just stop it while it is stalled up? I erased userdata without
fastboot -w update image-nakasi-jdq39.zip, so I think I will run it again real quick let it go for 5-10 then boot it up and see what happeneds. Because erasing the userdata may have deleted everything I just put on it.

8. This next command will both wipe your old system and flash the factory image in its place, which includes the stock system, recovery, kernel, and userdata partitions:
Code:

fastboot -w update image-nakasi-jdq39.zip

Enter, and wait, make sure the command finishes. This might take a few minutes.

Reboot the bootloader again:
Code:

fastboot reboot-bootloader

Enter.

IT WORKED!!! DAMN!! So, to solve the userdata problem (how it went for me)

Do the fastboot erase userdata then just let it run for a long time. I figure it might actually take some time to delete stuff, so I would say 5-10 minutes might be good enough. Then do step 8 again once it gets stuck on userdata let it sit another 5-10 and go along with the rest of the guide.

I have to thank 2def for the help. I was thinking I might mess something up, kinda like if you are wiping a HD on a computer and you just shut it off you could ruin the drive, but I guess some of the userdata was erased or enough for the android to fill in.

Once again, thank you. I will have to read more on rooting or at the very least to not do stupid stuff once I do. :D

Thanks. It was pretty easy to return the device to its initial status but the problema was not solved ... :( The thing is that somehow I managed to get a virus on the device (without installing anything unsigned, I always had the setting to required signed applications) that redirects me when I go to Free Porn Videos | 4tube to other random porn sites. I can live with that but I don't like having this kind of things on my device.

After doing all the process and configuring the Tablet again ... the redirection is still there

Even when this is not related with your superb guide ... ?any idea?

Thanks!

Re: [GUIDE] Factory Image Restore for your Nexus 7

Hello, I'm struggling here. My Nexus 7 died due to not being charged for a couple of weeks, and I followed the advice elsewhere to plug it into the charger, unplug it, plug it in again. Anyhow it's charged now and just won't boot; it sits there with Google in the middle of the screen, for hours.

I installed the sdk and downloaded the images from Google, and I've followed the instructions at the top of this thread, along with minor variations suggested or recommended (different USB ports, different cables, loading the .img files individually) in the course of this thread. Everything comes back "OKAY" but the final reboot just leaves Google on the screen. Before running I've checked that I get the proper response from "fastboot devices" indicating that the Nexus is connected.

Am I missing something fundamental? I'd be very grateful for a bit of someone's expert insight please.

Here's the output from running flash-all.bat:

Lock/unlock the bootloader and let it reboot again.

FYI this process was not necessary for your issue. There is a method of fixing your issue, the details of which I forget, but it involves just booting into the bootloader and maybe wiping the caches only before booting normally. I've seen it posted around here before, the full factory image restore is only necessary when you have screwed up something software related on a rooted/unlocked device.

Thanks for your prompt reply - either you're in Europe or you never sleep!
Wiping the caches - would that be something like "fastboot erase cache"? I guess that my attempts here to do a full factory restore will necessitate a full factory restore whether or not it was needed before?

New York... Sleep is a luxury I don't get much of these days :)
I'd have to find the fix, I may have seen it posted on another site. But yeah in any case now that you've started the factory image restore you have to finish it up. Did you try the bootloader lock and unlock again?

Hey, dude, can you give me links for nexus 7 wi-fi drivers.I'm a Windows user.

I believe they are available in the Nexus 7 Unlock and Root thread, no?

I don't actually have them either since I'm an Ubuntu user.. would have to do a little searching if they are not here..

Well thanks for all your help but I had to give up and call Google.
Google's support person was friendly, helpful and thorough, taking me through the steps we here are all familiar with and ending up with the assessment that I would need a replacement. He then transferred me to the person who organises that, and they sorted that out for me, resulting in an email containing the instructions for me to order the replacement. Altogether it took about half an hour. Then I clicked on the link in the email and ordered the replacement Nexus 7 - yes I had to agree that if they didn't receive the old one within 21 days of my receiving the replacement that they would charge the usual price, but that's up to me now. That was Tuesday, and the replacement brand new Nexus 7 arrived the next day, Wednesday. Unexpectedly fantastic service!
All the best to y'all, Mike
