How to get Twitter and Facebook to not inform me...

every time I get someone commenting on my stuff, retweeting my stuff, or mentioning me in tweets? It gets annoying, how do I change that? I hope I don't have to delete the apps to do that.

Try settings, apps, select the app then see if there is a setting in there that allows you to disable notifications power app. Believe that to be a jelly bean feature

Open the actual app itself and go to the settings when its open. There will be notification settings that you can check off for certain actions, or to turn it off for everything within the app. I have my twitter and facebook set that way. Probably saves battery with it not always trying to update on its own and sending notifications constantly.
