Exchange Sync Question

Hello All
I'm new to the Android devices, and am getting familiar with my Nexus 7.

I've set up an account to sync my corporate calendar to the device, but I turned off the "Sync Email" selection, as I don't plan on using it. However, if I click on the email icon, I see that it has actually synced with the server. The only way I could find to prevent this was to set the Sync Frequency to "Never"

Am I missing something here? Shouldn't disabling the sync email setting prevent it from syncing at all?

thanks

You are right it should, I would call Nexus tech support to see what up with that.

I set up Exchange account on mine first thing and it worked for two weeks. Now all of a sudden it says it can't contact the Exchange server. If I change the password it will reject it so I know it's authenticating. iPhone still works fine. Tried removing/adding account, tried clearing data/cache for email/contacts/calendar, tried restarting. Don't need work email on it bad enough to factory reset, I've already installed a lot of stuff, but it would be nice to have.
