Using Play Books, Magazines, etc. outside US

Anyone else using a Nexus 7 outside the US and has found a solution to reading play books, magazines, and watching movies without a VPN?

I have a VPN so was able to get the $25 credit fine, but as soon as I turn it off I can't watch/download any movie, and after a couple hours the books/magazine/movies apps disappear. I have tried side loading them but that does nothing. I love the N7 but I was really looking forward to using it to read books (works in chrome though but not ideal) and magazines. Books and magazines work on my GN fine so I think it has something to do with the N7 itself.

It's all region based. If you want magazines try Zinio...

I understand it's region based. I just don't understand why it deletes my play apps, as my galaxy nexus does not do that. Plus I have already bought magazines from Google.
