Nexus 7 Transfer data with a broken screen

So my screen broke a while back and I want to get all of my data off of there and put it on my computer. Well the screen is completely broken, I can still see what is on it but I cannot use it anymore because I am not able to type anything with it. I plugged it in my computer and and I got an empty folder named Nexus 7.

OTG cable and a usb mouse.

Is your screen locked? I have to unlock then I can see my files on computer. Otherwise just a blank nexus 7. but that will be difficult if you screen touch isn't working anymore. OTG cable around $2 shipped from eforcity on amazon
