I cannot figure out how to get the music I purchased over my Google Play account from my Nexus 7 onto my laptop so I can play it on my MP3 player. Is there no way to do this?

What about photos? When I connect to my laptop, I can't see any photos or music..... HELP? Are my photos and music permantly stuck on this device?

Thanks in advance.

I can't help you out on the music front, but I do have a solution to your issue with photos.

A simple way to be able to view your photos on both a Nexus 7 and a laptop is to upload your photos onto Google drive. Doing this is simple and fast, as there is a Google drive app for the Nexus 7.

The music you purchase on Google Play is always available to you on their servers, "in the cloud". To listen to it on the Nexus 7, you would usually stream it to your device by using the Google Music app. You can also download songs for listening when offline, but you must use the Google Music app to listen. Other media player apps won't work, as the song files are specially encrypted. This also means that if you can actually find the download location on your N7 and transfer the music file to your laptop, you wouldn't be able to play it back.

To listen to your music from Google Play on your laptop, or to download MP3 versions onto your laptop for transferring to your MP3 player, use your browser and log in to your account at https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../https://play.google.com/store&token=HYyyngBW. Then click on the My Music link. You can listen by streaming songs through the browser interface, or you can perform some limited MP3 downloads to your laptop.

To upload music from your laptop, or to download without limits, download and install Google Music Manager onto your laptop. You can get it my clicking on the Upload Music link while you're in the My Music section. Here are the details: http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1229970&rd=1

I just stumbled onto the fact that the CD transferred music on my PC will not play on Nexus 7 by using the "Google Play Music" option, but WILL play by selecting the Dice Player "open with" option. I'm happy to see that Dice Player will play both my video clips and CD's I have stored in my Windows 7 Music Library.

Music and any other kind of purchased media bought from Google cannot be transferred to an SD card or off of the device. You can download music straight to your device's memory, or have it stored on their cloud so you can access it anytime, as long as you have an internet connection.

A way to get songs to your computer, would be to log into Google Play from your PC, and then download them to the computer.

You can use the app called Cloud Music Importer. It downloads music from your Google Music library directly to your Nexus 7 in whatever format you uploaded it. Refer to my post for more details: http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=2761148.
