Bluetooth problem

I recently bought a bluetooth speaker to use with the Nexus 7. It paired easily, and was working fine. However, when I received email notifications on the notification bar, the speaker stopped working. What can I do to prevent the speaker from stopping whenever I get notifications?

You could turn on Airplane mode, then turn on Bluetooth and play your music. You shouldn't get notifications until you turn off Airplane mode.
