new N7 setup won't connect to wifi

Just got the N7 for the wife and when going through the setup procedure on second page, it won't connect to WiFi. My N7 is connected to the same router we're trying to connect hers to, but it won't connect. It goes through the motions, "connecting..." Then comes back and says "saved...". Tried several times and no luck. The signal strength in the upper right corner of the screen shows zero bars, but the signal strength adjacent to the SSI shows 3 bars. Might have to take this one back and exchange it, unless someone has any ideas. TIA

since you are trying to set it up new do a factory reset and start over again.

settings-->backup and reset-->Factory reset

What worked for me was turning off the tablet, turning off the router, and turning off and removing the backup battery of my cable modem. Then turning the modem back on (with battery reinserted), turning the router back on and finally turning the Nexus on. That worked for me.
