Playing avi movies on N7

Hi, new user here. Sorry if this has been discussed many times before but I can't seem to find the answers I need to get my old avi movies playing on my N7.
I have tried MX player, bs player, dice and also the video player that comes with the N7. I can play 2 movies out of about 12 that I have tried and I have also
tried converting these files into mp4 and they still won't play on any of the players. I also converted 1 movie with Wondershare with the output set specifically
to Nexus 7 and it still wouldn't play.

Please help, it's driving me mad.....

On your computer, install Any Video Converter (CNET Downloads checks programs for viruses), then, on your computer, do the following: when going through the start-up process, make sure you deselect any toolbars it may want to install. Then, once the program is open, you can just select you're .avi files and convert it to "Nexus 7". Now, connect your tablet to the computer. Afterwards, copy the converted file and put it in your tablet's "Movies" folder.
