I thought I would have to live with average sound quality for my songs on my Nexus 7. Then I heard music when I launched some websites; rich, full and theater like. I was stunned. Why does my MP3 music sound so cr@ppy when I now know the potential the Nexus 7 has?[BOX][/BOX]

MP3 is a lossy compression format for audio. When the file is created a bit rate is chosen. The lower the bit rate, the lower the quality of the audio file. And, of course, the quality of the track before compression is important.

Early MP3 files were usually 64bit. These days you usually get at least 128 bit, which is usually good enough for any one but an audiophile. The later MP4 (m4a, and m4p (p for protected)) formats are more common today, and the quality is better for for a smaller file size. That means a .m4a file at 128 bit is a pretty darn good.
