And when I got the back off I noticed there wer 4 buttons, the power button, up and down volume buttons, and then this 4th button right below the down volume key.
I wasn't sure what it was or what it did so I didn't press it because it was a customers device and didn't want to be on the hook if it wiped the data or something crazy.
On the outside of the device there is an indention where the button should be but you still cant press it from the outside of the device.
Here is a photo...

I did some searching and couldn't find any info on this button.

So my question is, does anyone know what this button does?

You weren't supposed to find that. The Men in Black are coming.

JK, I have no idea but I'm also curious.

Judging by the size, maybe it was originally meant to be a pinhole hard reset button?

It's not too crazy an idea. Remember when all gadgets would have a pinhole reset button in case it froze up? Maybe they originally designed it with one, then realized they didn't need it (or it was a dumb idea) and aborted it.

LoL no you could be exactly right. I just wanted to use "as if!" for nostalgia. :) Carry on! :)

I think B. Diddy is probably right.

But, someone should still push it and see what happens. Who knows? It might hold the secret to time travel or take you to Narnia. :p

Another thing I noticed inside the Nexus 7 was there is a place holder for a rear facing camera and even solder points for where a plug would go. Google's got all kinds of secrets in there.

Wow! mine looks exactly the same....
Maybe it's a port for the future project of Google for Nexuses...
You'll get an adaptor and when you'll push the knob in the hole, it will throw you one second further in the future...
Awesome...
Can't wait to get it...

:-!

I don't think it does anything. I pressed it the last time I had my Nexus 7 open, and nothing seemed to happen.

It looks like the hole on the other side and the top for the mics. Maybe they were going to put 3 in it and the cost of adding a third was to much or figured if you're holding it your hand would block the hole.

I was thinking about an extra mic as well, but remember that the OP noticed a button under that.
