Nexus 7 (2012) Dock Charging Cant Keep Up With Use

I just got a Nexus 7 (2012) and the ASUS dock and was hoping to use as a Spotify/Pandora player hooked up to a receiver. The problem is that even though its charging on the dock and says its charging its draining faster than it can charge. It this expected? I did update to KitKat and have read about battery life issues. Is anyone else doing something like this successfully? Is it likely the upgrade and should I move back to an earlier version? Which one? Thanks!

What is your wall charger output? It should be at least one amp. (1A)

Its the factory shipped charger as the dock doesn't come with one.
