Using Wi-Fi Direct on Nexus 7

When I try to use Wi-Fi Direct on my Nexus tablet to connect to my LG Smart TV both devices say it has connected ok but I cannot share between them. No matter what I try to share, pics, documents, whatever, nothing seems to work. Wi-Fi Direct is never on the list of ways to share items. In fact no matter what device my tablet says it has used Wi-Fi direct to connect to Wi-Fi-Direct is never a share option. I have been told to turn off the connection from my tablet to my wi-fi router but that does not work. I have been told to use connecting via a LAN and although the TV does come up on the list of devices I can theoretically connect to still nothing can be shared. Am I nuts or does Wi-Fi Direct even work on the Nexus 7 tablet.
