My wife's Nexus 7 started acting odd. There are four dancing dots on the screen. If I hold down the power button, the screen goes dark and in a few seconds 4 colored dots show up and circle around. How do I get it to reboot (and get rid of the dancing dots)

The dancing dots are part of the Nexus boot screen. How long are you waiting until you try rebooting again? On the Nexus 7, the dots usually dance around for about 20 second or so when booting up, and then the lockscreen or homescreen appears.

If the dots are hanging around for much longer, then try booting into Recovery Mode and wiping the cache partition, which won't erase an personal data. http://forums.androidcentral.com/goo...tion-wipe.html
