On the Nexus 7s (Two in the house, Hers and Mine) there are a number of Google originated apps that (1) I didn't put there, and (2) I never ever use.
Things like Google Slides, Google Play Games, etc, etc.

But these nasty interlopers still use lumps of my monthly Network allocation by updating whenever I update the apps I do use.

I appreciate the N7 would probably need to be rooted to completely remove this stuff, if it's possible, but the machines are not rooted.

    Question then:
Are there any configuration on the N7 that will inactivate this PITA so whenever I do an "Update all" for the apps I want updated, the rest remain dead to me?

You could go into the app manager and select Force Stop for those apps.

When notified of app updates, you don't have to select Update All.....you can tap each app that you want to update.

I think that if you force stop these apps they'll all appear in your Play Store updates. Try to disable them in settings - apps. You'll be prompted with a couple of scary questions, but don't worry it's safe. Just make sure you don't disable any app that your phone really needs (Play store, Play services).

This process won't uninstall those apps, that's only possible if you root your phone, but they won't use any resource.

If you want to enable them back just go to the "disabled" tab.

    Thanks for the prompt.
I'd forgotten the Disable in the apps manager.
