How to update my nexus 7 using SDK

My nexus 7 won't update over wifi, every time I try I get an error halfway through installing it. So my understanding is I need use SDK? I literally have no idea how to use this and it all sounds very technical and complicated. Also I'm using a mac.

All I want to do is upgrade my nexus 7 to 5.1 is there an easy way to do this or an idiots guide? There must be an easier way?

OK as I pointed out I have tried this and it is not simple. I'm not a new comer to stuff like this but this is just the most complicated way of updating something I have ever seen. There must be an easier way?

This. Also don't use factory Google image. Rooth tablet then download the Xenon HD Rom (5.1.1). Trust me, everyone HATES how Googles 5.1 pretty much renders your nexus 7 useless. The Xenon HD rom is fast responsive
