with Google's Android Device Manager now available on Google Play. On your laptop, in Play, click on the gear icon>Android Device Manager, which brings up a map showing your tablet location where you can ring it or wipe it clean of data. Your device has to be activated first in settings>security>Device Administrators.

I didn't find anything about this on Google Play, but I did find it at https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager and successfully rang my new N7, and properly located all 3 of my Android devices.
