i can press the microphone icon, and was able to use it to do music search.

but is that the proper way to do it?

and i can't seem to find the widget in google play store. it doesn't have the install or uninstall button on that page.

Widget should be there in your widget drawer. If your using sound search through Google Now, while the song is playing, press microphone, after a second or two, another icon (I think its blue) should appear. Press it and let Google do its magic.

There is no app for it. So there's really no way to see your previously tagged songs or anything like that. Not that I know of at least. Which is why I use shazam.

It is actually part of JB and you will find it in the widget drawer, not the app drawer.
