Sure it's not a h/w problem? I had ghost taps on two different devices, both the result of failure of the digitizer and both requiring factory repair.

I've had ghost taps and no taps since my KitKat update. I just reboot it when that happens and it's fine for a few days.

Any number of apps out there (ex. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ired.droidinfo) will show you your device specifics. Then you just need to compare it to the information that Google has posted to find out if it's the 2012 or 2013 model.

It may be a hardware problem. I dropped my device (in a case, mind you) on the carpet while trying to grab it and my phone off the night stand (a couple of feet at the most) - it became completely unreliable, hardly responding to any screen touches. I went through the usual routine (Factory Reset, system cache wipe) with no difference in behavior.

Since it was useless at that point I said 'what the hell - if a drop caused the problem, maybe another drop will correct it'. So I smacked it on the carpet (still in the case) along each edge and lo and behold, it started working again.

I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS COURSE OF ACTION TO ANYONE!!! It just happened to work for me. YMMV.
