When connected to a PC I cannot see any files

I am trying to connect my Nexus 9 to my computer via a USB cable. The PC makes the sound when I plug it in and the Nexus 9 appears in My Computer. But when I click on Nexus 9 to open up the storage files nothing is displayed. My driver is up to date. What is wrong? My Nexus 9 is on Marshmallow 6.0. HELP!

Update: I finally called Google support and it turned out to be a really easy fix! All I had to do was pull down my Notification bar and touch the USB charging button. Yep, it was set to charging only. I changed it to Transfer Files (MTP) and now it works. I hope this will help others.
