November Security Update (Also Saturation/Nav Bar Fade Update)
Looks like it is out today. Anyone get it yet, any major changes? Not working for me yet on unlocked model on at&t.

Unlocked Pixel 2. Nothing yet

Re: November Security Update
Nothing but I'm on the beta build

Re: November Security Update
Just got a system update. Try checking manually. Pixel 2 (non XL) unlocked on AT&T. Most likely related to https://www.androidcentral.com/pixel...security-patch

It fixes the muted colors. That is all I see right now. U now have a saturated option.

Re: November Security Update
So, is this more than just a security patch, or is that about as big as security patches go? This is my first Pixel, so new territory for me.

As soon as it's done I'll tell you all I can, but Ddust14 already said above that there is a new color mode...

Re: November Security Update
In case anyone's wondering, this does not fix the NFC clicking issue. It does, however, patch WiFi KRACK, which I was far more concerned with. Thanks Google!

Yea it's there. There are 3 options now, boosted, natural, saturated. I think I'm going to go with boosted, saturated looks cartoonish to me now.

I just noticed that too. I wonder why they don't fade on the home screen...

Is there a way to force the update? I remember in the past you could clear data from one of the system apps, but I forget how to do it.

I got my device through VZW. They've been really good about being on time with the Pixel. Your region is probably next.

I am not worried - can't get to all phones at the same time. Have had Verizon and Google Pixels - no update issues with either.

Mine finally appeared 59.3 MB for my XL 2.

Shouldn't we all be able to update at the same time then ?

That's not accurate... Carriers still have to push the update out to their users.

With my other Verizon phone. It tells me I have a Verizon update. It highlights that it's from Verizon. The Pixel 2 XL didn't do that at all. I checked it and it mentioned nothing about Verizon unlike my other phone.
I can't speak to overseas, but domestically an update has to be tested first.

No, you are incorrect. Updates come from Google. That's one of the bigger reasons to buy a Pixel...

Window dressing. Verizon wants to appear to be proactive. All Pixel updates are coming from Google. No Verizon testing of any kind.
Don't you find it interesting that the update number Verizon posted is the exact same image number that is posted on Google's web site? Verizon is simply announcing the update. It's not coming through Verizon.

Google has 2 versions of the update then, 1 for the Google Pixel and one for the VZW version - correct.?
Both are released by Google?

Google can't "leapfrog" a provider if you buy their phones. Unlocked from Google directly .. different situation.

That there are 2 versions. Updates come from Google. As had already been mentioned, you could take your Verizon Pixel 2, bring it to another carrier, get it connected to that carrier's system, and you'd still get the same update as all the other Pixel 2s on the planet.
People who are only activated on Project Fi are getting updates also. Today. Same day. Same update.
Granted, Google will roll these updates out gradually, they don't want all Pixels hitting their servers at the same time. So there could be a few hours delay, maybe even as long as a day. But that's not because of some "testing" that Verizon is doing.

We will agree to disagree on this point.
It does have to go through VZW testing, however..
-
Re: November Security Update
Check out this web page:
https://developers.google.com/android/images
This is where you can download the images. Notice that all build numbers are available here. This is a page on a Google server.
The updates are coming from Google.
As for the specific carrier build numbers, it's not all that difficult to believe that there is specific code necessary for certain carrier's system. But the updates are coming from Google.
If verizon is in fact doing "testing" they must get it done well in advance, because all builds are released at the same time.

Google Update
Hi Friends, Question for you all..Does Google's latest update give us immersive mode? When they say the Nav bar fades in and out, Does it do so in a manner like the S8+? Black bar, buttons and all, Entirely, Or does it simply dim?
-
Re: November Security Update
Now I'm vacillating between Boosted and Saturated...
I just can't make up my mind.
Apps like Google Photos should call in the wide gamut and display as accurately as possible, right? I mean, this decision really only impacts the look of the home screen and apps that don't specifically call in the wide gamut, right? Anyone know if YouTube calls in the wide gamut?

the nav buttons dim to a gray. And so far only in apps, not on the home screen.

So the black bar stays, only the Nav icons dim? I was hopeful the entire navigation bar dock fades..

My only issue with saturated is it makes white screens bluer. Colors look normal but still not as saturated as the Note 8.

Re: November Security Update
The funny thing is that my OG Pixel XL was a Verizon version and I seemed to get the updates SOONER than some unlocked Pixel XLs I noticed.
It seems this may be the case with the 2 XLs as well. Now I have the unlocked version of the 2 XL and I don't have the update yet, while Verizon bought ones are getting the push it seems.

Well, within apps there's usually no black bar, just the buttons.

Re: November Security Update
Sitting with a Google Play (unlocked) Pixel 2 XL on Verizon network.... No Update yet.... Mashing the "Update" button only yields "Your system is up to date".
Not in "beta" program at this time....
-
Re: November Security Update
People need to stop saying Verizon Version or TMobile version. All the pixels are the same version. The update applies to all of them. Come from Google directly and doesn't have to go through extra testing steps. The different number is meant of consistency on the carrier. But it doesn't matter if you have it on a specific network. The reason not everyone has gotten it is because of rolled out updates from Google. Patience people

Screen Saturation/Nav Bar Fade Updated!!!! (Dang it. Just saw somebody beat me to it)
https://forums.androidcentral.com/go...ml#post6057352mpaign=email[/URL]"
New settings for saturation. Boosted replaces Vivid, Saturated is added. Not as punchy as the Samsung screen, but Central is pleased with the change.
New feature of the NavBar. It will fade out if not used over time. They don't say how long it takes, or if there will be a setting for choosing the time yourself.
Great news, Google has quickly fulfilled their promise on these issues......

There is no Tmobile version but actually as I understand it there are two Versions....unlocked and Verizon sim enabled. Both phones are unlocked but The Verizon model has a locked bootloader. At least that was how previous Pixels were. The updates for Verizon do get rolled out from Verizon but right around the same time as the Google updates....again going by past practice.

My response was strictly for the "check for updates" button issue that was quoted previously. If Google has pushed the update to your device but it hasnt refreshed in the background yet, the button does actually call to Google's servers to check for an update. This still isn't going to do anything for phones that haven't had the update rolled out to them yet.
-

Re: November Security Update (Also Saturation/Nav Bar Fade Update)
A number of people have commented on the color saturation options and the dimming nav bar, but I'm more concerned about their decision to lower the overall max brightness - has anyone noticed a discernible difference on this? I'd hate to have the screen be less viewable in daylight . . (haven't got the update yet)

Re: November Security Update (Also Saturation/Nav Bar Fade Update)
Okay I'm back, after the update I reinstalled my Cricket SIM, choose not to change colors, happy with what I got from the factory regular pixel 2

New colors in this order, saturated, natural, boosted, reg Pixel 2

Doesn't look that different in pictures posted, but the different levels really make a difference, natural seems a little dull compared to boosted, saturated way too much

Yeah the change for saturation and such wouldn't take Google much. Just a quick software tweak to change the levels of the screen.
