I currently have in my lineup, iPhone 8+, Note8, and the pixel 2xl. Each of them had their time to be top dog. This weekend I tried the iPhone 8+ again. It failed to dislodge the pixel as top dog... Not even close. I just turned the Note8 back on.... We'll see what happens....

Just got my 2xl today but won't get any playtime till I get home at midnight... The Note 8 was my 2nd choice so I'll be interested to see what you think.

I absolutely love my Pixel 2 XL. That phone will be a keeper for me. With that being said, I'm looking to get the Note 8 as well. Waiting for Black Friday.

Well if my 2xl becomes my daily driver then I might keep my 6P as a reserve and get a note 8 as a weekender... At the moment I can get one for £650,about $850..does that sound reasonable to you? Thanks, David

I have both the N8 and 2XL. I really like my 2XL except for a minor blue tooth issue with my podcasts / music as it won't display artwork or artist on my 2017 Prius Prime. Also in my workspace, I get reception with my N8 (1 bar) and zero reception with my 2XL.

I'm interested to see how your evaluation pans out.

First noticeable thing....using the exact same charger, the pixel 2 charger, the NOTE 8 charges faster. Plus it has wireless charging.

Fingerprint reader on both devices is fast. NOTE also offers facial authentication. The placement of the fingerprint scanner on the NOTE is awkward, but we knew that. Not sure that is an issue for me. Both are better than the iPhone

Update 2:

Filtering through the setup, I am again bothered by the Samsung/Google conflicts. I did not log into Samsung, so I assumed I would only see google apps. I saw both. I assume this is an OEM thing. To me is not seamless. Sure, I can turn off some of the features that were Samsung.

Keyboard comparison, both are ok. I like gboard better. But, using flow on the NOTE is impacted by the curved edges. I found it uncomfortable and if I had a choice, I'd opt to not have the curved edges.

So, at the end of the first day of comparison, Pixel 2xl is in the lead. Not because its prettier than the Note. Not because its screen is better or worse than the NOTE. Its because of the ease of use to achieve the same end.

I'll be doing my own personal test for the rest of the week. Then one gets put away....

UPDATE 3:

The iPhone 8+ was boxed up today and put in the drawer. It never had a chance.

Configuring the NOTE8 has been challenging. I'm not a genius when it comes to the switches on this thing. For an out of box layman phone, this is not a good experience.

The pixel continues to be simple to use and as powerful in most cases as the Note 8.

I'm thinking of converting the note 8 into the Microsoft version of Android....

I think my comparison is over. In my house, the Pixel 2xl wins

Is that not because Google has designed it whereby the 2xl charges quickly to about 80% then slows it down so as not to stress the battery and prolong its life?

not sure I care. I plug in a charger, it charges or it doesn't. Layman here, not a techno geek. :-)

I tried the 2 XL, s8+, and iPhone 8 plus. I couldn't stand the blue shift and crap colors on the 2 XL so it went back. iOS 11 isn't working very well on the iPhone 8 plus, lots of odd bugs and the battery life isn't so great. My s8+ has some occasional stutters and dropped frames, but everything works well and the battery life is great. So I'm sticking with the s8+ for now. I really wish the u11 plus was coming to the US and worked well on Verizon, but not going to happen...

Great. Thanks.

I'm disappointed with every single release this year to be honest.

I have the same feeling tbh.

The Galaxy note's and S8+ fingerprints scanner, the screen of the Pixel 2XL, the software and ridiculous selfie cam on the V30.
They are all deal breakers for me.
And if you would pay 500-600$ this wouldn't be a deal breaker, but for those prices I feel that we have a right to ask for perfection.

I even tried to go for the Iphone 8+, my last one was the IPhone 4.
But when I still couldn't download a song and use it as a ringtone I stopped trying. I'm really not going to work with ITunes in 2017.

So now I'm waiting for the U11+, that looks like the complete package to me.

I've had the Note8 and Pixel 2 XL for a couple weeks now. They are both fantastic devices but as of now leaning Pixel. *I have the lastest update with updated colors.

Pixel:
+Extremely fast and buttery smooth
+Fantastic pictures with great detail especially in low light shots
+Fantastic front facing camera
+Well placed fingerprint scanner that is extremely fast
+Pixel Buds Translate is fun
+Beautiful OLED display*
+Amazing battery life
+Now Playing feature for music
+Front Facing Speakers are incredible
+Squeeze for Google Assistant
+Fabric Cases are spectacular
+Beautiful notification shade for YouTube/Music playing
-No clipboard app/feature. Copy and paste only can be used once
-Native Screenshot feature is barebones. No cropping or scroll capture
-Color shift on display when viewed off angle*

Note8:
+Beautiful Display all around
+S-Pen is fantastic for productivity
+Samsung Pay works great most of the time
+Iris Scanner works decent
+Pretty snappy performance overall
+Great camera plus many features.
+Screenshot features are great
+Clipboard app is great for productivity
+Headphone Jack
+Expandable memory
-Fingerprint scanner location
-Bixby and it's button
-Samsung Bloat slows down phone
-Phone slows down randomly on occasion
-Speaker is mediocre
-Ok battery life

This is really a clash of two Titans. Overall for me the Pixel 2 XL works best in most situations because it just works and works fast due to it's optimization. Combined with the world class camera it's an tough package to beat. I find the Note8 to be better in the business/productivity space because of the S Pen and the uncanny amount of features the Note 8 has like the Clipboard app and the Screen shot cropping/scrolling. While I am leaning Pixel right now I wiIl continue to alternate between both phones and it's close enough I may favor the Note8 or throw in the towel and call it a draw :)
