Just brought home my new Pixel 2 XL and am about to transfer files. I have been using ES File Explorer on my past two phones but since they've been loaded up with ads, bloat, and whatnot, I think I'm going to leave it off my Pixel 2 XL.

What do you use for a file manager app? The built-in one or do you go third party? What do you like/dislike about them?

I just use the native app. Since I'm always at my computer throughout the work day, I connect with AirDroid and often manage stuff through my desktop browser.

the built in one has limited functions. but thank god oreo at least has one. I love the samsung one i used to have but it doesn't work on my new pixel 2. So I bought solid explorer. its a little bit confusing and has a learning curve with the copy paste, move too stuff. but overall i think it will do the job. I got the paid version.

Total Commander is always one of the first apps I install on a phone. Stock file explorer apps often leave much to be desired. Total Commander has always been free and ad-free, and the developer still pays attention to it.

Thank you! That turned out to be the perfect ES Explorer replacement for me!

I wanted Cloud services support (Dropbox, Drive, etc) and the ability to access external hard drives on my home network, and FX has it all covered and has a pretty good interface.

I will have to upgrade to Pro when trial is up for those features, but I think the $2.99 that they are charging is very reasonable.
