This is an ongoing issue, not with the the XL 2 I'm using now, but with all my Android phones. Gmail either doesn't arrive, or arrives anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours later. Same with my Note 8 I'm using now too.

It's been happening to all my Android phones this last year or so. I'm using the Gmail app, check sync and all of that. Even removed Gmail from battery optimization.

Happens with wifi on/off.

On my iPhone (and iPad) using the Gmail app, it arrives instantly. In fact, I hear the notification on the iPad and maybe a half hour later it finally comes through on the Pixel or Note.

Anyone else have this and if so, have you found a work around? I rely heavily on email notifications.

Interesting that you have the issue with various devices. Would make it seem like it's more of an acccount settings issue.
I have always had all my email accounts forwarded to my gmail and the only time there is any delay is if I send myself a bunch of photos or something else large, Otherwise it is pretty instant.
I always use the stock app that comes with the phone

I've had this over 5 years worth of android phones. Tried all the different settings (unlimited access to battery, unlimited access to data, wi-fi on/off) just as you have. The gmail app will always work fine for 30 minutes or so and then stop retrieving mail until I open the app and refresh it. I've given up on it at this point and just use Blue Mail.

I will give Blue Mail a try. I've tried Outlook and I get the notifications right away, but if I open the email on the Gmail web version on my laptop, the Outlook notification on the phone doesn't clear. It's like Gmail on Android just wont sync.

If I wake the phone the notifications start coming through too, so there's definitely a disconnect with Gmail once the phone is off for a certain amount of time. Very frustrating, especially because on the iPhone the Gmail app works perfectly.

That's odd my Gmail apps or Google Inbox app updates almost instantly and no issues with notifications. On all my Android devices and iOS devices.

Maybe as a test open a new gmail account and see if that works with no issues. If so, then it's got to be an account issue.
