I noticed drain as well, did a factory reset and everything is really really good now with battery life and speed. Something was obviously hanging up.

Glad I'm not the only one noticing a drain since 8.1. First days I was very impressed as my N6 would drop 3% just driving to work and doing nothing but Pixel 2 was 100% still by lunchtime. 8.1 update, dropped 2% while driving to work with 1min SOT. Now showing 5% drop after 3hrs off battery and 11m SOT.

Not bad I know but definitely it seems after the update
I have dropped from 4 SOT and would be 35% at end of day to 2.5 hours and down to 18%.

I noticed after a few days battery life did improve so I'm guessing files were indexing? But I uninstalled all the apps I know I barely used and hard reset and did gservicefix, I'll see how it goes today doing the usual.

I didn't notice any real change with 8.1 initially, but it seems that the battery is draining much faster ever since I enabled the PVC processor (yes, it obviously drains a lot faster when using AR in the camera, but it seems to do so to a very noticeable degree even when not).

I'm wondering if that processor is leeching power even when not known to be actively engaged, but still enabled...

I still have 8.0 and overnight I have always lost 7 - 8% battery charge overnight in Do Not Disturb mode which I though was pretty good. What settings do I need to only lose 1 - 2 % as some have mentioned here?

Overall, the battery has been amazing. I have never gone under 50% in 24 hours. However, unlike many of you I don't play games or watch videos, and screen time is maybe 2 hours per day.

I listen to music and audio books via bluetooth, check messages and email, read some news, and maybe talk on the phone under 15 minutes a day. Still with same usage pattern, last phone would be at 20% or less at the end of the day.

Have you checked your battery usage in the morning to see what app might be using juice? My white noise app which runs for one hour is the only thing I see. However my battery took a hit with the update so I no longer wake up to 100%/99% anymore. I have do not disturb set to only allow contacts thru so don't think that really matters. Like you I don't game and only listen to an occasional podcast besides email/texts and web browsing.
Your being on 8.0 still I'd suspect an app is using juice overnite. FWIW: when I was getting almost zero battery drop overnite I was pulling it off the charger at 100% right before bedtime. Also, maybe reboot once in a while if your not. I usually do that in the morning after checking my battery stats.

Since my battery is at 80 - 60% when I go to bed it is difficult to tell. I'll charge to 100% right before I put it down for the night. I normally reboot and charge to 100 in the mornings at my desk.

My guess it is the catch all "System" that is using the battery.

Yeah, I'm not as concerned during the day or I'm just paying less attention to it maybe. But 100% charge at bedtime gives me a good constant baseline being idyl for reference. Let us know how it goes.

5 hours SOT seems pretty stellar, no?
My note 8 was getting 8-10 SOT so to me nope cause I don't game on this thing anymore.
Oh My god, did you tweak your phone ??? This SOT is insane !! :D
I have substratum, today I tried no AoD since I always have my phone up so it's always using battery. And I used gservicefix and that's the usage for the day pretty much. Nothing else, I try to disable Bluetooth and wifi if I'm not using it. This was on par to what I was getting on 8.0 and 8.1 dp1

Charged to 100% for bed. I lost 5%. I find when my phone is at 100% it takes a while to drop to 99%, so that is probably why I did not lose 8%.

Anyway, phone idle 2%
Mobile Standby 1%
System 1%
Apps 1% (no idea what app) Rebooted phone at bedtime.

I received notification that 8.1 was available yesterday afternoon. Should I download it or wait?

@paradroid, I figured you were on 8.1 already. Yeah, I'd install 8.1 as I think those of us with battery issues are fewer than those without. I'm kind of surprised at your stats overnite tho. Pre update mine were alot better. You can always do a FDR which is what I'm looking at soon I think. Although that's not a guarantee either. Just need to find some more motivation. Also thinking of waiting till the next patch and see if it helps at all.

I feel the same. Happy with the battery and getting about 2 hours SOT to 40% battery which is great compared to my N6 but not what I was seeing on 8.0

Tempted to do a factory reset, but reluctant when I've only had it 3 weeks. Curious to see more people update and see if that's the fix

Well, I always FDR right out of the box, I know a little OCD perhaps but I read on a tech site a few years ago how the testing was done and how stuff can be left on the phone. I had a Nokia several years back that had a porn clip, obviously home made and German on the phone! Then read that article and decided to start FDR-ing before doing any set up and for what ever reason, the excitement of finally having a pixel or whatever I neglected to FDR first. So I'm thinking I'll do it later this evening just for my own peace of mind. Then see how the battery does over nite. I'll come back and post the results tomorrow.

My battery life was never good from day 1. In fact, it lasts much less than any of the previous phones I've owned (Samsung, LG).

After several days, I brought the phone back and exchanged it for another new one (because I can't simply exchange or buy a new battery, which drives me nuts), but there was no difference in battery life.

I am not clear on why this is, especially when one considers that one of the main selling points of the Pixel 2 is the long battery life. I'm doing all the right things like only keeping the screen brightness at 30%, following recommended charging procedures, etc, plus I only installed a fraction of the apps I was using on my previous phones just to keep the drain to a minimum. How is this thing even going to make it to six months, let alone the supposed two years I was told the battery would be good for?
