Probably a dumb question (Google weather frog)

Ok, I feel like I need to preface this by saying that I am new to Android. (Coming from iPhone 4s.) I could have sworn I just had to swipe down to see my Google weather frog. Or whatever he is called. But I installed 8.1 today and he is nowhere to be seen. This is super silly. But I kind of miss him. :-[ Am I doing something wrong?

When I woke up this morning, he was back! I was doing the exact same thing, a small downward swipe of the hourly temperature numbers to make him appear. Last night, that motion just kept refreshing the weather. But this morning as soon as I tapped the temperature on my home screen, there he was in his little tent. LOL

I love that weather app. Lots of information without being cluttered. Easy to get to, just tap the temperature on the home screen. Better than anything I've found on iOS.

Anyone here know if it is possible to get the weather shortcut on another launcher, in this case on Nova? More specifically, when you're in the weather "app" and hit add shortcut to home screen, it won't add it to the home screen of another launcher, other than the stock launcher.

Sorry for being a bit off topic, but I can't figure this one out for the life of me.

He's a very active frog always having fun... I'm on a coastal climate but I wonder if you lived in the midwest if he would go skiing?
