Will the updates ever come over AT&T network? Each time I've had to put the Verizon sim card in to get the updates and that is getting old quickly. I love the Pixel 2 XL from Apple but it's becoming a headache each month.

If bought through Verizon, you will likely need to have the Verizon SIM in, even if that SIM is not active. Since no other US carriers offer the Pixel directly, it's safe to assume that one NOT bought from Verizon should have no problem getting the update direct from Google.

This is why I no longerr buy phones from carriers.

I learned the hard way from AT&T.

I bought my phone from BB, so a Verizon variant, and use an AT&T sim. I got the 8.1 update within a few weeks, when it took that long for a looooooooot of people - the January update I got within a couple of days. I have not seen any real trend that AT&T phones get second fiddle for updates in all the pages of threads I have read about people posting when they got their updates.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll wait a few more days before putting the Verizon sim in for updates.

It can't hurt to try the Verizon sim, it might be higher on the list than your at&t one for the rollout, I don't think anybody knows how google prioritizes the rollouts of the updates.

Took about 3 weeks for me to get 8.1 but I got the January update very fast. I'm on a unlocked phone on at&t . Over all I have gotten all updates pretty quickly aside from 8.1. I have had my pixel 2 xl since end of October.

Yes they do now, 8.1 brought it with it. Sprint is the only one that doesn't and that's because their VoLTE service is in testing.

So if I got a pixel on AT&T the hd voice will work?! Omg this could be a game changer!

It has been noted that some phones that were previously using a Verizon SIM card, and therefore running a Verizon build, failed to recognize and update to a non-Verizon build after being moved to a different carrier/different SIM card.

The reverse was also noted, e.g., some phones that previously used a non-Verizon build failed to switch to the Verizon build after a Verizon SIM card was installed.

I have noticed that the last Verizon-specific build was released in November. Perhaps, due to the aforementioned issue, a single build is now being offered for all USA carriers. If your phone is currently running the OPM1.171019.011 build, then it should recognize and update to the latest release without switching to a Verizon SIM card.

Just curious how Google got HD voice approved to work on ATT. Would be nice if they added wifi calling too. If Apple can I suppose maybe Google negotiated that and it wasn't ATT's generosity to enable it.

I was finally able to get AT&T HD Voice working on my Pixel 2 XL, but I had to call into technical support to get it done. I had to update the IMEI on my account to the 2 XL (it was previously a Galaxy S7, only used the IMEI for provisioning purposes to get LTE with unlocked phones) so that the account could be provisioned for HD Voice. I tried for WiFi Calling as well, but no dice. One reboot later and the phone stays on LTE during calls. The technical support rep was great and very helpful.

It's a bit ridiculous that AT&T uses an IMEI for provisioning in this way - they know exactly what phone you are using at all times, but store an IMEI for provisioning your account. It's their underhanded way of discouraging unlocked phones.

So I assume your S7 didn't have HD voice? I didn't have to do anything for my sim. Just worked.

Unlike AT&T branded phones, Pixel updates are not distributed/controlled by AT&T.

Awesome stuff. Will I also have to add at&t son settings? Assuming I will unless that also gets acquired automatically in 8.1

Their APN settings? Should have it once you have the SIM in there. 8.1 should also be available for it since it has been out for awhile.
