SMS staying in notification after replying.

What is the idea with SMS messages staying in the notification panel after replying to the SMS thread?

Eg. Someone sends me 3 SMS from the same sender I pull down reply and the whole thread is still showing including my reply. I have already read and replied to the SMS thread so why does it stay? I have to keep clicking mark as read which just doesn't make sense.

I believe it's so you can continue having the conversation through the notification panel without having to open the messages app. I personally like it, especially if I'm not expecting an immediate reply. I like seeing what the last few lines of the conversation were.

I'm sure there are some SMS-specific settings that will enable you to turn off that feature.
