I updated the Google Play Services Beta by going to applications and finding it. I was already on Beta but I did not know there was an update.
Then I hit the check for Updates button and it ACTUALLY Worked!
Hope this works next month
It seems I get the monthly updates around the 10th of the month. I don't stress over it since these updates don't change much that I can see. Mostly behind the scenes stuff.
If I go to "check for updates" it normally says it already checked within the past few hours so no reason to keep checking manually. When its there its there..
I'm on Google Fi, I would think us FIs would be the first on the list!
See previous comments about the Google Play Version. It has nothing to do with your carrier :P. Below is what was done this month.
These are part of the March Security Bulletin and besides patches for the critical vulnerabilities found in Android and hardware partner's code, some bug fixes and software improvements are inbound for Google's family of devices. Don't get excited, though, there's nothing fun in there.
* Improve screen wake performance with fingerprint unlock (Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL)
* Improve audio performance when recording video (Pixel 2 XL)
* Improve crash reporting (Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL)
I have version 11.9.75 of google play services, how do I get version 12? My check for update works or looks like it does.
You need 12+ on the services. Once that is done and you hit "Check for Update" it will pop right away :).
how do I get 12?
updated earlier today feels more snappy and seem to fix Auto rotate
I thought ths was a beta update to play services. What you did didn't do a thing for my play services app. The apk option was being discussed last month I think in a thread around here some place. In any case what ever worked is good.
In my case, I updated Google Play Services to version 12.2.17 by getting the APK from APK Mirror. Once that version was installed "Check for update" actually worked, and I was able to get the March update on both my Pixel XL and my Pixel 2 XL.
i now have the march update by updateing the Google Play services too beta
I downloaded the APK for Google play services for version 12.2.17 and now it is constantly crashing.
How do I uninstall or fix this:
Attachment 280109
I kept closing the popup and am now the march update is installing. Hopefully that will fix it???
Go here and enroll in the beta.

Atlanta here. March 5. Pixel 2 updated no issues so far. Finger crossed that the battery doesn't drain as quick this time lol.
What's wrong with you guys? The update button works fine
Got to that link on my phone and installed and no more app crash. Thanks for the spot on info.
Unless you have the version 12 of google play services it won't download until they decide.
I imagine you are a beta tester.
I'm glad to hear there's no more crashing. It's possible that you got the right version but the wrong variant. It's important to get the right variant. Fortunately, the beta version is newer, so it was probably able to override what you had installed.
Mine is updating as I type. I installed a play services beta update from APKMirror that makes the check for updates button work. As soon as I clicked it the update began to download.
Fingerprint seems to work faster. p2
All updated here too, UK
Worked for me.
To update Google Play Services:

* Tap Apps & Notifications
* Tap "see all apps"
* Scroll down to Google Play Services, Tap on it
* Scroll down to Store--App Details
(Mine says installed from Google Play store)
Tap on it
* Now should take you to Google Play store and give you the option to Update Google Play Services
* Tap Update
Once updated, go back into
Settings > System > System Update > Check for Updates
Voila!
you may need too reset the phone back too when you 1st got it out of the box
@PowrDroid you're a Champ your method to Update the Google Play Services
is clear-Faster and 100% effective. I just update my Play services to ver. 12.2.18
went to check for Updates manually and it tell Me that I've the latest-1 installed
and that's correct. The weird fact is that I installed the March 5 update with
the older version 11.9.xx and it's been said here..We need the new one.? :confused:
