Sorry ahead of time if this has been asked already,

I bought my Google Pixel XL 2 from Telus and was wondering if I can install another carriers software on it?

    Thanks in advance.

If the phone is SIM-locked, that wouldn't remove the lock. If it's not locked, you can move it to another carrier even with the Telus version of the software.

What are you trying to achieve by doing this?

    What "other carrier's software"?

What do you want to do differently?

    Hey everyone, thank you.
Telus told me all Pixels are unlocked right away. (Maybe they were mistaken)

I am not taking it to a new service provider or anything like that, I was just going to see if the other carriers, (Bell, Rogers, Sprint, etc) have anything else enabled in their software. ie: Enhanced Messaging

If they did - it would only be when used in conjunction with a SIM from that carrier.

    Exactly, since it’s network dependant.

I thought EMS was available on phones which support it and the carrier is irrelevant.

    One of us is confused.

I installed a Rogers Factory Image on my old unlocked S7 and the EMS worked.
I then reinstalled the Telus Factory Image to see if the EMS was working and it did not.

*Sorry if my wording is wrong, by EMS I also mean RCS.

Sounds like i will not worry about the original question,

    Thanks again everyone!

EMS/RCS requires carrier network support, not just an app on the device.
    GSDer likes this.
