I find it strange that Google is still selling the Pixel 2 XL at $949 full price even after Samsung released the new Galaxy S9/S9+... who in their right mind will buy the Pixel when the S9 is available for only $720 and S9+ for $840?

Google has cut the price by £100 in the UK. Even at them prices though I would take the pixel. I kept s9+ for 2 weeks before getting rid

The Google Store in Canada has also discounted the 2 XL by $100.

There are deals out there and I wouldn't buy the Samsung over the Pixel even if it was 500.00

It was just 200 off a couple of weeks ago.

People who prefer Google's take on Android over Samsung's?

I'd pay more for the pixel over the samsung, but glad I didn't need to. not a samsung fan after being a disappointed owner previously.

There are plenty of cheap crappy phones out there if you are looking to save money. My suggestion would be an s8.

Kind of a low blow. There are a lot of great lower cost options as well.

S8 is far from crappy, and that's coming from someone who disliked it greatly. To each their own.

Agreed. Samsung makes good phones that can do a lot of things - things the Pixel can't or won't do. It's definitely a preference though as to which you prefer because they each offer something that offers value. But price drops are always good for everyone so yeah, hopefully it drops here in the USA, instead of just offering discounts or Google home mini's.

I didn't get a discount on the Home Mini, I got it free. I also got a discount code recently for the Daydream View, $50 off, it arrives tomorrow (not sure if this was because of the Pixel 2 XL purchase or some other promotion).

Well what I really meant was bill credits or rebate, since that is what they were doing a while back with the Pixel 2XL.

Like IR. Give me a Pixel 2 that I don't have to plug LEDs into in order to control my TV and cable box.

But the price will drop - if not before, then when they release the 3.

Samsung hasn't had IR on the flagships in a couple years, either the S6 or S7 was the last (along with the Note 4 or 5) if I recall.

I can control my whole entertainment system in my living room with my Pixel 2 XL, even by voice. I bought the Logitech Harmony Ultimate Home when I saw on Thrifter that Amazon had a steep discount on them a month ago, it connects to my WiFi and has an app for the phone.

I took advantage of a similar deal on a Pixel 2 XL 128gb model by purchasing through Best Buy just a couple of weeks ago, but it was structured as a $100 price discount from Best Buy coupled with the $300 bill credit from Verizon (spread over 24 months). I was checking vendors daily during March and never saw any deal from Verizon Wireless that included any price discount beyond the standard $300 bill credit. But since we're longtime Verizon customers anyway, it's all the same to me; in either case, I'm ultimately paying $400 less than the retail price of the phone -- which makes it a terrific deal. So far, I'm really enjoying this phone, and finding that I miss my MXPE far less than I had anticipated.

I have to wonder if some of it has to do with concerns over the supply chain. Google had difficulty keeping up last year, if Google drops the price there may be difficulty filling the orders.

It's a bit of a catch-22 - people want the device but think the price is maybe a BIT too steep for them but the demand is manageable, if the price drops the demand goes up and Google may not be able to keep up with shipments within the amount of time people expect.

It's like cars - some sell themselves and every unit produced sells even without incentives, others have piles of incentives to entice the customer to buy that brand over the brand that doesn't offer incentives. If the brand that doesn't offer incentives starts offering them, they suddenly start growing faster than they can keep up with and quality goes down.

I think it comes down to supply and demand and getting the most profit they can per unit.

I'm waiting for another $200 promo through Google Play Store. I think the Pixel 2 XL is a great phone but at this point not worth $35 a month and I have to stick with AT&T because of meaty corporate discounts. My 6P died a couple months ago and I have been using my wife's oldish iPhone 7 Plus. Not a bad phone, or a bad camera either but pages apps or folders is getting a little long in the tooth.

Folks like me who only buy Google phones? Is this a trick question? I wouldn't use another phone even if it was free...

You can tell me how great Samsung phones or iphones are until you are blue in the face. I am still never going to buy one.
