I have a Pixel 2 XL running Android 9 (Pie) and 5th August security patch in the UK.

Pre-Pie update, when I touched the fingerprint scanner, I heard and felt a small vibration. With Pie, I no longer get that.

I still have my Nexus 6P with Oreo and I still get the haptic feedback with that. I've checked the settings against each other (Nexus and Pixel) and they're all the same.

I've already discovered that the Overview Smart Text / Image / 'phone number Selection system doesn't work for me unless I change my language to US English.

However - this one has got me beat!

Works for me. Worked on Oreo, works after updating to Pie. No settings needed to be changed. Seamless.

Still works after Pie update. I'm getting a slight vibration for recognized fingerprint and more pronounced double vibration for unrecognized fingerprint.

    Thanks for the feedback, folks.
SectoKingsFan and PowerDroid - Wanna swap?
cbreze - Yep, rebooted a few times.
NMCynthia - Life sure is weird!!

I can live with it until 9.1 comes along.

My 5" Pixel 2 also works with the haptic feedback - I just checked because I was nervous! Maybe yours will miraculously fix itself on its own... Phones are weird like that. Keep us posted!

Mine doesn't work either. Do you have any other weirdnesses? My nav map shrank down to "screen share" size and I couldn't get it to go back to full size this AM, for example. And when I make a phone call all the sounds and ringing goes to my bluetooth headset, but the voice comes out of the phone speaker. Sometimes. I just unpaired and repaired the headset so maybe that'll fix it.

    :/

    lol to all 😂

Spoke to Google today and was advised how to fix the fp scanner issue:

Step 1 - Restart in Safe Mode.
Check in Settings that Imprint is there.
    Restart normally
Start uninstalling third-party app which mught solve the problem.

    If that doesn't work.......

    Step 2:
    Do a Factory Reset.

    I... don't....think...so!!

    I'll hang on for 9.1...or .2......or.3 even.

    Thanks for that, mes amis.

Morty2264 - Sorry, I should have been clearer - Step 1 did not work although I admit to not uninstalling my third-party apps. I need them.

SactoKingsFan - Good thought! I did have Battery Saver on - and Adaptive Battery - but, having now checked all combinations of off/ on - FP Sensor still not singing.

It occurred to me that I could just as easily let you read the reply from Google by yourselves:

    Google's reply:

    Hi Kulana,
Thank you for contacting Google Support!
This is C...., the representative who assisted you today. It was a pleasure talking to you.
If you are having some issue with the fingerprint scanner, please try these steps.
Step 1: Reboot device into safe mode.
If your device's screen is on, follow these steps to reboot to safe mode:
Press & hold the Power button.1. In the box that opens, touch & hold Power off.2. You’ll see a “Reboot to safe mode” box. Tap OK.3. Your device will start in safe mode. You'll see the words "Safe mode" in a box at the bottom.4. Check Settings > Security. If the Pixel Imprint appears while in Safe Mode, restart in normal mode, and begin uninstalling third-party apps until the issue is resolved. 5.
If the issue is not resolved, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Reset your device to factory settings.
If the previous troubleshooting steps haven't solved the issue, you can try factory resetting your device.
By performing a factory data reset, all data will be erased from the device. While any data stored in your Google Account will be restored, all apps and their associated data will be uninstalled. Learn how to back up your data before performing a factory data reset.
The following page will guide you through the reset process for your particular device:
Reset your Pixel device to factory settings
If the issue is still not resolved after resetting your device, please reply to this email for further assistance.
    Thanks!

    My Reply to Google:

    Hey C....,
Thank you for your help and advice.
I did Step 1 - rebooted in Safe Mode - and Pixel Imprint was there. I rebooted and the haptic feedback from the fingerprint scanner still was not happening.
Howeverl my third-party apps worked before the Pie upgrade, I'm not prepared to uninstall any of them to try to resolve the issue. I'll leave that up to Google.
As for Step 2 - Reset my Device - that's just not going to happen.
As I mentioned in our conversation, all the little anomalies are not going to cause me great distress however, I hope that Google will get them sorted soon.
    All the very best,
    Kulana

Actually, if a 3rd-party app is interfering with the haptic part of Imprint, it's on the 3rd-party developer to figure out how not to interfere...

I'd take issues with that. It shouldn't be possible for a 3rd party app to muck in the fingerpint scanner, I wouldn't think.

Yeah, annoying but probably not worth a factory reset for me either. Would be interested to know though if a factory reset works for somebody.

Mine works on my Pixel 2 though it is very faint but there is a small but if haptic feedback. Still is like a touch more but I don't recall if there was more on Oreo.....
