Going to messages from lock screen causing blank screen

Not sure if the November update caused this. When I double tap screen to wake the phone, and then double tap the text message, my screen goes blank with just the navigation keys showing. The screen is unresponsive. Has anyone else come across this issue? I'm on a Pixel 2 XL.

Apparently you don't have a lock screen enabled? Or, where you would normally get a prompt to unlock, you're instead being met with that black screen?

Correct, I do not have a lock screen. So why would this issue be here then?

I am having the exact same issue. Happened on my Essential phone as well as on my Pixel3 that I bought a couple weeks ago.

I am having the same problem ... when I double tap on a text message showing up on my black lock screen, the lock screen will open up to another black screen, except for a lit back button and home button. The text message that I double tapped on is not there. That screen will be totally unresponsive, and I have to restart the phone to get it to work again. Strange!!

Same problem. Ever since I've had this phone, for over a year. Any solutions??
