How to shut off screen?

I have a Pixel 2xl
I keep my phone in my shirt pocket. I always turn my screen off when I finish using my phone. Yet frequently when I look at the phone in my pocket the screen is on. I also get lots of pocket calls or find that the phone is in the process of dialing. It also uses up my battery. I would prefer that my screen stays off when not in use.

This happens to me now and then. Same phone. I don't have any trusted location or whatever on.
