It is labeled Dec 1. I tried a while ago and again yesterday and today. When downloading, both the Percentage and MB values keep vacillating. Up and down and then it fails. Any other way to get this darn update?

Thanks in advance.

PS: Got the Jan security update last night.

The current Google Play system update is still 12/1/2020. That's where mine was, and then when I checked, it said I had to restart to update -- and then after the update, it still said 12/1/2020. I've seen that behavior before. When you tap Check for Update, is that when you see it attempting to download?

Thanks for replying. Oh, is that info at the bottom (Dec 1, 2020) showing the existing version on my system? I thought it was showing what is available to get! I hit the update button, then see "Download and Install" and hit that. Then the values bounce up down in both the Percent (bouncing between 44-48 and back again) and the MB bounce up/down between 26 and 30. Then it fails.

Can I check which version I have? Going to All Apps, for Google Play... I don't see a version or date. The only choice is Deactivate.

Oh, well, it will not be the end of the world.

Hmm, so it does seem that it's having trouble installing the latest Google Play system update, but the weird thing as I mentioned was that it seems to be having trouble going from the previous 12/1/2020 update to the current 12/1/2020 update.

I suppose you could try clearing the cache/data for Google Play Services and try again, but if it were me, I'd just wait until the next update comes along and see if it fixes itself by then. At least it's an official suggestion from Google, though: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/9037938?hl=en

God only knows what data or history was blown away by the processes in that link but I no longer even see that a Play Services update is available!!! So out of sight, out of mind. No longer nagged by the prompt (or itch) that could not be satisfied. Thanks.

My wife's Pixel 5 updated to the 1 Jan 2021 Play Services version. My Pixel 4 XL keeps failing, the numbers jump around crazily and then it sticks at 3% for a few seconds and fails. Very strange.

Yes - that's what I've seen. Values go up and then down and back up and down and then FAILURE. Odd behavior.

I just saw that happen on both my 3 XL and my wife's 5. But after about 10 seconds of that, it did ultimately update. Both phones actually updated twice in succession. Keep trying!
