Tried to add preferred care and even after checking with a supervisor and being a 3 time Pixel customer, it was a no. They said I could return the phone and re-order. Not great customer service,

Was the same last year. Not sure why they do it like this.

Unless you're on Google Fi. You have 30 days on Google Fi.

But that's the policy. Sucks but it's been the same for years. Not sure why they do it that way but its not new.

Yup.. Fi gives you 30 days to add the coverage. I did it this morning (got phone 2 days ago) for $7 a month...

Do you can't order it, drop it the day you get it and then try to get preferred care.

No.....you can't even add it while waiting for the phone to arrive so that is not why

It's probably "the policy" because that's how the program is written, and the people you talk to don't rewrite programs. If they get a lot of feedback about it (by "a lot" I mean at least hundreds), they might put someone to work changing it.

Probably just the easy route for Google to tie the warranty to the phone.
