Night Sight is coming but if you want to try a premature version here it is.
It won't install in top or your camera. The icon will be called "camera P3"
This version may not work as well as the actual release so please don't complain. Install at your own risk.

I installed this last night and when I got into bed took a pic of my hutch and doorway leading to the master bath across the room which were in almost complete darkness.
It was pretty cool how it came out lit up. Obviously wasn't super clear, but very impressive nonetheless.
I unfortunately deleted the pic so I can't post now.
I almost forgot but this was on my 2xl as I'm still waiting for my 3xl replacement.

The pictures in that gallery are insane. If it is reliably that good, it is a true game changer for low light photography, especially on a mobile phone.

I thought about installing the apk and trying it but decided to wait for the official release. I'm not in a hurry and taking that low light shots anyway.

I really want to download it, but resisting for the moment. If the roll out takes too long, or a bunch of folks have it work well for them.... I will have to dive in

Do you have to activate Night Sight or does it automatically activate when you have low light?

From reading some of the other blogs, it appears it will be suggested if they light is low. It is then something that you need to manually switch to from there.

I haven't had the chance to see where the threshold for it to prompt you, I may try it some less than desirable circunstances just see

No almost unlit places to test it, but from what I'm seeing - on a Pixel 2 - SteelGator is right - this is a game changer for photography. I couldn't do this with film, and you can almost get a brightly-lit picture from a dark room on film. Come tonight, this is getting tested. Unfortunately no cloudy nights in the forecast. But coming home at night, if the motion sensor doesn't catch me, who cares? I'll pop the phone out and see the door easily.

And the final version will have improvements? Unbelievable.

    Thank you, Mike.

I never thought of that, but it would have to live preview for that to work

For those who are hesitating trying it, it loads as a separate app, so your primary camera app remains unchanged. I tried it - it really is amazing.

Does the preview show results or darkness?

The preview shows what the picture will see if you focus/expose (tap) on the dark area. Stand out in a virtually photon-free world, and you'll see something. That's where I'll be testing it tonight - my back yard is normally pretty dark unless the motion sensor kicks in. The neighbor's lights (from the back yard of the house on the block behind me) are totally blocked by my garage (detached). so on a starless, moonless night, I leave the garage door open until I get to the door, then sometimes have to waive at the motion sensor. But from what I see so far, in the dark corners of the house, Camera P3 detects photons that aren't there. And displays them on the screen.

So I gave in. I was not able to find the most scenic spots, but Night Sight is incredible. These are all right out of the camera. The four wheeler did not need Night Sight but I shot it anyway.

That was my thoughts as well but seeing that it's a separate App and not modifying the Camera App I went ahead and did it, so far I've been very impressed with the results, and seeing that it's just a Modded app and not the final and official app it's even more impressive.
