Is there meant to be a faint colour difference between the main screen and the bits beside the notch on a white screen (Chrome, Contacts, etc) or has my screen burnt in 3 days?

A few people were discussing something like that here:

    https://forums.androidcentral.com/go...des-notch.html

I'm guessing this is what you're wondering about?

I don't think you have screen burn in. Each app handles the notch area differently.
    Easy way to tell:
If you take a screenshot and the difference is still there, it's not screen burn in because screen shots won't capture burn in or defects in screen.

Yeah it is burn, on a screenshot the line is in the same place beside the notch on the screen all the rather than at the top of the image. Very poor that it's there already.

So your screen shot is different from the display?

Yeah you can't see the faded part on the screenshot (apart from on the screen beside the actual notch) but say if you scroll halfway down the screenshot you can still see the faded bits up beside the notch.
It's a defined straight line along the bottom of the notch where above it is a bit faded. Probably not a huge deal because very few apps have it the same colour anyway, but it's still shoddy after a few days and doesn't bode well.

    Uh oh, #fadednotchgate .

Are you looking at the screenshot on a different screen to compare?

I have the same issue, is not part of UI or anything being done to tint the notification section.
It's a faint dark line you can see separating the notch part, on white screens, especially in Chrome.

I've only had actual burn in one one device, and it was easily noticeable. By that I mean you couldn't miss it. I looked at the images you posted, I had to zoom in, and even then it was slight. Maybe it's worse in person, but I had a hard time seeing it. Odd considering this is on the Samsung panel on the 3XL and not the LG panel from the regular 3. Of course there's no notch on the regular 3.

It's not burn in though. It's like the part is just shaded a bit darker than the rest of the screen. Can anyone else take a look at their phone?

Open up a blank screen on chrome or just a whole white screen an take a look at this section. So you see a light shaded line? Or the section being a tad darker?

When I had burn in, sometimes the affected area looked darker, other times it looked lighter, mostly dependent on the color being displayed on the screen. Mine was from the notification bar when used in landscape mode, Mine was an 1/8" stripe down the right side of the display. Since then I've trained myself to switch things up in terms of the orientation I use the phone in, to try and prevent it from occuring again.

When this thread first started, I assumed it was the area between the notification bar and the screen when using a black wallpaper. There's a lighter shade of black there, which I'm assuming is so the user can see the edge of the notification bar. This was present on my Pixel 2 as well, and I though it was a defect, but the tech I spoke to said it was there on every Pixel 2 they'd seen. So it was there by design. Perhaps this is either intentional or a byproduct of the notification area, I don't know.

Screenshots won't capture burn in or other screen defects. Only a photo of the screen would work.

The easiest way to see it should be on boot up when the complete white screen with Google is displayed.
