Tried to use Google Pay for the first time, but seems my Pixel 3 NFC is not working.

Did further tests to verify using some card reader apps and confirmed there is an issue, as my old LG G4 can detect and read the card just fine.

Anyone else having NFC problems? Is it something that can be fixed via software update?

I've not had any NFC issues to date. I suggest factory reset, then if not working, ask Google for a replacement.
(before the obvious, make sure NFC is turned ON)....

Yep NFC is definitely ON.

Contacted Google Pixel support and they cleared settings memory. Worked for the first try, then didn't work again.

Anyway, good sign is the hardware seems to be working.

Tried it tonight because I didn't remember trying on the 3XL but it works fine

Mine's not working on the Rome, Italy metro. Only place I really need it. Will try a reset and do again.

Try removing your phone's case (if any) and test again; some have been known to interfere with NFC.

Also, if you have a metal plate inserted between your phone and the case (used by some magnetic car mounts, for example), try removing it and testing. It could easily block signals from the NFC antenna.

Definately good news it at least has worked once. Maybe an APP is conflicting?

Deleted some third party apps and cleared cache of settings and Google Pay. This was advised by Pixel support. Now my Google Pay via NFC is very responsive.

Also advised by Pixel support:
Try using device in safe mode, just to confirm that no third party apps are interfering.

Curious, which apps did you delete? I'm experiencing some issues. Thanks.

I removed some locally available apps (currently residing in Singapore).

The specific app I removed reads my train/bus card to check the available balance and transactions. Basically try removing any apps that might require your device NFC.

Not sure if part of the fixes, but after Dec 2018 patch seems NFC is working totally fine. Haven't encountered any problems recently when using Google Pay for in-store purchase.

Hi I'm having issue with the EZ Link apps, seems like it cannot detect my card, haven't tried using google pay, is there any app or way to test if the NFC is working other than google pay?

If you have a second phone you can see if NFC works between phones to copy files but I don't know if that guarantee that Google Pay will work or EZ link apps.
