Odd Issue With Assistant & Calendar Events

I found a strange issue that seems be specific to mine & my wife's phones (both P3XL's) and was wondering if others are experiencing the same.

Typical scenario:
Create an event in Google Calendar for XYZ day on a Chromebook, Win 10 machine or Android tablet.
On P3XL, activate Assistant and ask "what's on my calendar for XYZ day?"

Assistant responds: "here are the events you requested", and lists every event twice. After scrolling to the bottom and clicking "Show full agenda", events are only listed once. This also happens in Android Auto with a connected screen: when given the Assistant command: "what's on my calendar for XYZ day?", all events will be spoken twice. (So irritating!)

None of the events are listed twice in Google Calendar whether on the phone, a Chomebook or the web page; only on the phone when prompted through Assistant. All devices are logged into the same account. Other devices in the home (4 Home Hubs and 2 Mini's) do not exhibit this behavior.

I also noticed that an event created on the phone via Assistant does NOT duplicate on Google Calendar, and is NOT listed twice when commanded on the phone.

I have tried clearing app cache & storage in Google Calendar and Assistant, uninstalling and re-installing; making sure not to restore app data and the issue still persists.

I had a long online chat with a Google Specialist tonight, to no avail. They could not resolve the issue, and merely suggested I submit feedback. When I pressed a little harder and persisted that it was a Pixel phone specific issue, she became "tight lipped" and ended the conversation rather abruptly.

Is anyone else experiencing the same behavior?

Just tested mine with event created on Windows 10 and it works as expected. The fact that you are experiencing the same results on 2 phones leads me to believe it's not a phone defect.

I just checked mine and don't have the issue you describe. Is this something that just started recently happening?

Thank you for the reply. It has been happening on my phone since I purchased it in December. She just got her's on Saturday, and noticed the issue after I asked her to try and duplicate the condition on her phone.

Yeah, I don't know; we are at a loss on how to solve this one. So odd that it is happening on both of our phones.

Ok, so we know that the one thing in common is that you both share the same account. Anything new that you create does not repeat. However, older previously input events are repeated.

Did you both come from different phones over to the pixel(iPhone/Samsung)>? Im wondering if when you both changed to the Pixels, set up the calendars, it combined the two phones into one account. But, then you said you dont see double events in the calendar, which makes that whole theory busted.

This is an easily reproducible bug in the Google Assistant app on the phone (not a problem on Google Home speakers or any other speak-only GA).

1. Any events in Google Calendar will be listed twice in GA app on the phone. It doesn't matter where you created these events. All my events are created on the phone and the result is the same.
2. You ask for your calendar on the phone via Google Assistant and instead of speaking out the calendar events, it lists them on the phone screen. This is where the bug is: every event is listed twice on screen.
3. If you ask the same thing on Google Home Speaker, it will correctly tell you there is only one event and speaks out what the event is.

Thank you for your response! I should clarify: we are logged into our gmail own accounts on our own phones. The ONLY common denominator to both of our accounts is Google Home, of which she is a member of the "home" I created, and all Home devices are set to recognize our individual voices.

We both came from Pixel 2 XLs. Yes, no events are "doubled" in the calendar app or website; only in Assistant on the P3XLs.

So, you both have your own individual gmail accounts that you are logged into, but do you share calendar events?

Exactly! (with a couple caveats):

1) When I create an event via Assistant on the phone, it does NOT double up (when I ask the phone assistant) "what's on my calendar for XYZ day".

2) Correct; with the addition that Android Auto (car connected screen) will list and speak all events twice.

3) Correct.

I manually created those calendar events on the phone via Google Calendar app and they showed up twice. Something clearly is wrong with Google's Assistant app on the phone. IIRC, this has been this way ever since I got my Pixels 3 in Nov 2018. Can't believe Google still hasn't fixed this bug.

Ok so I'm not crazy! Thank you for taking the time to respond and post your experiences.

Have you tried logging off and then back into your account ? Are you using another calendar app ?

Edit: I'm asking those questions because I see it through other forums people adding lot different apps and such or applications that affect native apps on the phone

I can't agree with your statement here based on the short amount of time that I've been trying to reproduce the problem that you described. I'll agree that an event created using Google Assistant on the phone is NOT duplicated in the actual Calendar application (meaning that it doesn't show up twice in the Calendar), but it IS listed twice when asking Google Assistant to list events for that day (see caveat in further comments below).
This is an easily reproducible bug in the Google Assistant app on the phone (not a problem on Google Home speakers or any other speak-only GA).

I can't comment on what happens using Google Home devices since I don't have one of those so I skipped #3 .
As for the problem being 'easily reproducible' - well, it is, but my testing shows that it's timing dependent:
- tell Google Assistant (GA) to create the event (on a day with no other events)
- immediately tell GA to list events for that day; GA reads the one event correctly
- immediately open the Calendar application; observe that the event created using GA is not shown
- manually Refresh the Calendar application (using the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and choose Refresh); observe that the event created using GA is now shown
- tell GA to list events for that day; GA now shows the list of duplicate events (even though there's only one event in the actual calendar and even though choosing 'Show full agenda' only shows each event listed once)
YMMV

@mustang7757: thank you for all of your help and screenshots. We are not using any other calendar app other than Google Calendar. I have tried all of your suggestions prior, but just for S's & G's, I tried them again. No love, but I do really appreciate the insight.

In more testing, you are absolutely correct: Assistant generated calendar events do duplicate not immediately, but do in fact duplicate after a short period of time when asked about events through Assistant.
