Well is was a great 6 year run with Nokia Lumia Icon. That Icon went through hell and back, and I never had one issue with it. Loss of apps and Windows support kinda forced me to find an alternative. I researched cell phones for about two months before deciding on the Pixel 5. I didn't want a huge phone. I wanted something the same size as my old Icon. I'm not a power user so top tier hardware was not a huge deciding factor. The camera and the software was important in my choice of a new phone. It's really hard to walk away from that camera on the Icon. What I wanted was a solid mid tier phone.

You don't realize how far the tech in cell phones has progressed until you make an upgrade as I did. This phone is fast to say the least. I have to admit the old Icon had held it's own very well. Overall I'm extremely happy with the Pixel 5. The battery life is fantastic. The finger print reader is awesome. The camera is right there with the old Icon's. The Android ecosystem will take me a little getting used to. But so far, it has been a pretty easy transition. All of the apps I had on my Icon are available for the Pixel 5 on Google Play. Can't say enough about this "little" Pixel phone except, I'm very happy with my decision.

A picture for size comparison. Pixel on the left, Nokia Icon on the right. The Pixel 5 is only about a 1/4' taller than the Nokia Icon.

Welcome! I still have my Lumia 925 which I somehow managed earlier this year to get to WM10. I loved Windows Phone and used it as a daily driver until I switched from the Lumia 950 to the original Google Pixel in January of 2017.

I am currently using a Pixel 4a 5G. You will love the Pixel series.

Also I like your handle. Haven't been to Bean town in a year thanks to Covid-19. Hopefully sometime in 2021.

I absolutely LOVED my WP ICON!! I switched to the Pixel 2 and have been very happy with it, and am now contemplating on whether to get the Pixel 5, or wait for the P6. I really wished that Microsoft had continued with the Windows Phones, as they, and the camera, were GREAT!! Now, the Surface phone is just another Android phone, without a camera. Don't get me wrong ... the Pixels, and their camera, are also great ... I just preferred the Windows Phone. Welcome to the website!

If you like the Pixel 2 and are not on the hype train I actually suggest you get a Pixel 4a in that lovely Blue color.
And if you are on the 5G train then I suggest get the 4a 5G today which is only $459 today at the Google store.

The Nokia Icon was one of the best cell phone ever made. It never, in six years, let me down. When I say never, I mean never. The camera and Nokia's software was way ahead of the game. The pictures were stunning. The OS was fluid and fast. Full Microsoft Office in the palm of your hand. My wife refuses to give hers up. And now that I'm on a Pixel 5, she says she has my old Icon as a replacement. Microsoft had a great product in Windows Phone. They were late to the game and were not fully committed to it as they should have been. It's still a great phone OS and i'll miss it big time.

Welcome to Android Central! I can understand your adoration for the Nokia line - it was a phenomenal platform! So glad you are loving the Pixel 5! I've heard that the Pixel 5 has great battery life and an efficient fingerprint scanner!

Thanks for the welcome. The battery life is insane! I've used it on and off all day, minor web surfing, major texting and emails, oh and Roku remote on all day. 8 hours off the charger and I'm at 91%, 1 day 15 hours of battery life left. Yeah that's INSANE! The finger print scanner is faster than a nano second blink. Seriously loving the finger print scanner. As you probably know, multiple finger prints are allowed. I scanned both index fingers and my wife's. It doesn't matter which hand I pick the phone up with, it's instant access. Only time needed to enter the four digit pin is on a reboot. Really liking my choice of replacements for my ageing Icon. If Microsoft would fork their Windows Mobile 10 home screen as an Android launcher, I be in heaven.

Yup I really enjoyed my Windows Phones, was so disappointed they didn't continue, but had hopes with the Surface phone mock ups. Had since moved to the iPhone and now finally back with the Microsoft Duo as a backup phone. While the Duo is not the same as the Windows Phone, I am really enjoying the hardware. If they made the Duo with the WM OS that might be a cool sight to see. But for now I'm good with the Android ecosystem.

It sounds like you are having a wonderful time with your Pixel 5! I remember my Pixel 2's fingerprint scanner being very fast - it's nice to know that Google has stepped up their game even more than that now! And what amazing battery life you are getting! So glad you are enjoying your new phone!

My all time favourite phone was the Lumia 1020 (hence my avatar). I had a Lumia 950 as well which I really enjoyed but the lack of apps eventually forced me to switch. Windows phone is still my favourite UI. I loved the live tiles. Like worldspy99 said, you'll love the Pixel series.

I still do wish Windows Phone was still around for sure. I think by now they could have maybe had an app ecosystem to compete with Android and iOS had Microsoft stuck with it and made the smart moves for the platform.

I too think that Windows would have made a worthy contender for Google and iOS had they stuck with it. I'd always wished that I'd tried a Nokia Lumia-series phone.

    Awesome username, by the way!

When I knew BlackBerry was on the way out I was looking at Windows phone and hoping they'd make a go of it. Quite frankly I'd rather be invested in the Microsoft system as opposed to The Google. Alas, here I am with The Google. One day if Apple can play nicely with others I will consider an iPhone.

The Lumia series had great potential, but as you said the lack of apps would have definitely been a dealbreaker. Glad to see you're enjoying your new Pixel 5!

It's really sad that Blackberry and PalmOS went the way of the dodo. It would be nice to have more options in the OS space.

I adored my Lumia Icon! I really wish that Microsoft would revive their platform as it could have been a winner had they paid the least bit of attention to it.
