I just ordered an unlocked Pixel 6. I'm on T-Mobile, do I just have to take the sim from my LG V40 and put it in the Pixel or do I need a new sim.

If you are not getting 5G signal, call T-Mobile and they should be able to help

All depends on how old your current sim is.

Yep, if this is a really old SIM, you need a newer one to take advantage of 5G. They will do that for free.

I bought the phone from Amazon, will T-Mob still give a free sim? My current sim is probably 4 years old.

Why don't you just use the eSIM? It's pretty easy to set up. I called in and was set up in less than 5 minutes. Works perfect.

Sometimes they may try to charge you, but they can give it free if you persuade them. It depends on rep you are dealing with. Just tell them you have a very old SIM and was advised to drop by the store and get a new SIM. Don't tell anything about I bought the unlocked phone etc, since the clueless reps may say things like oh it's not compatible with our network or BS like that

Exactly describe it that way. Let them know that you were informed to come into the store and upgrade to a 5g sim which they should provide to you for free. Don't see you running into any issues.

An eSIM is just an electronic Sim card built into your phone. They just program it over the air, no need for a physical card to put in your phone. Plus you can have 2 lines of service on your phone if you want...one on the eSIM and one on the physical sim.

It would be really nice that if you used an eSIM, you could use the sim card slot as storage instead. I don't understand why Google wouldn't have done that.

Because a lot of us use multiple phones and like the convenience of moving the sim card to any phone we choose that day. Plus Google will never use the space for an sd card. Every since the Nexus the Google devices have only been equipped with on board memory so yes we would like to keep our sim tray on devices.

Go to T-mobile store have them Activate your E-Sim! I'm 4 phones into using the e-sim with T-Mobile. Best scenario

Plus sd card storage can be problematic, and it's easy to lose important stuff because of a sudden card failure/corruption. I'd rather have things in the on board storage and backed up to the cloud/other places.

I would use the esim option IF I didn't switch back and forth between my ZFold³ and my Pixel.... I would imagine that would make it more difficult to do.

When you use 2 sims on one phone, does it only give you 4g? Or does 5g still work on it?

    Thanks

Call T-mobile and ask them. I called my provider yesterday, planing ahead for the 6Pro I'm "supposed" to receive next week and they state that so long as I am receiving VoLTE with my current sim card, then it will be compatible with 5G. But I do not have T-mobile that's why I would suggest to give them a call.

You'll get 5G on each sim as long as it's on your plan and you're in 5G coverage.

Just so there's no confusion, for 2 sims to be active you'll need to have 2 plans and there will be separate phone numbers for each.

You going to a T-Mobile store to chat about eSims? They probably know less than you. Not to mention, they'll probably charge you a fee to activate it.

That's awesome. Just read this post today. I was about to offer you a SIM card since Tmobile sent me like 14 extras whenever I just needed 3. (Total waste of their money if you ask me to be so careless like that). Glad your issue was fixed. :-)
