Why can't/doesn't the Google Keyboard word suggestions recognize 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc, when typing these in a message, email, etc?? Can't be that complicated to figure out.

Do you feel its a touch response or keyboard issue?
Try resetting the keyboard clear data then force stop

Hi mustang 7757. It doesn't seem that "1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc" are recognized as "words" by Google. I don't understand why not. So many type this sort of shortcut, instead of the actual word, like "first", so why can't Google's word prediction figure it out before having to input 1 s t completely? Not a huge issue, but curious.

No kidding, I've always wondered about this as well. I would prefer using 1st over first 99% of the time.

Interestingly, I did a message in Google Messages this morning, using the Google keyboard microphone, wishing a friend "Happy 4th of July" and the transcription showed "4th" instead of "Fourth." The microphone word recognition/word prediction is better than the keyboard predict.
