What does everyone think of the new info on the HTC Nexus of 2016?

How true are these rumors? And when do you personally think this phone will be launched!?

Let's get this thread jammed packed with info and personal opinions!!!

I'm very interested to see what HTC and Google do with this year's Nexus. Even though my last HTC phone was the One X+, I feel like they put together very solid phones w/ a decent camera over the years. The M7, M8, M9 were visually appealing and the leaked photos of the 10 look great.

For the Nexus 2016 I'd like to see:

5.1-inch QHD (2560x1440) 577ppi Super AMOLED (Or equivalent. The screen on my S6 active looks great)
    Some future-proof processor
    3-4 GB RAM
    64 GB Storage
    Micro SD slot
3000+ mAh battery w/ Wireless charging

    and a great camera.

I used to like HTC, but now that they're dropping the Boomsound thing, I'm not so sure about them.

HTC lost me a long time ago. Products seem like they just lost their way and not sure Google can even get them back on track

I'm sure they will kill it with the Nexus line up. Or I sure hope they do.

They dropped Boomsound the speakers. They're keeping Boomsound the marketing term. Along with the breakfast cereal and the flame thrower (bonus points to whoever gets the reference).

I am really interested on HTC phone. But the problem is battery life isn't long. Is this right?

I'm very happy with my 6P. To me, there's not much missing from it in terms of improvement, with the exception of split screen and the ability to keep Doze active with movement, triggering it off with a press of the Power button or a fingerprint unlock. These issues are obviously being addressed with N. When that's taken care of, all that's missing is OIS for the camera. I'm not big on taking photos, though, so that's not a big deal.

If the rumors are true, I'm not keen on HTC making the Nexus at all.

Battery life on HTC phones is atrocious. Taking away the BoomSound front speakers makes it an automatic no-go for me. You can't give customers phones with front speakers two years in a row and then expect them to be happy with anything less. BoomSound front speakers or bust, Google.

Also, anything less than 5.7" at this point is too small for me. There's nothing like viewing content on a big AMOLED screen with stereo sound. Finally, no one knows how good they are in terms of fingerprint implementation. Huawei did a great job there, and overall. If I'm not absolutely blown away by the next Nexus, I'm sticking with the 6P.

Anything less than 5.7 is a no go for me as well. But I'm sure there will be two Nexus devices like last year.

My only HTC device was the Desire HD and was my entry point into Android. Since then I've flirted with Sony and Samsung but a Nexus phone could bring me back home.

I expect the phone to resemble the HTC 10 with minor changes just like the Nexus One and the original Desire. They'll probably drop the capacitive keys to stay aligned with Google's design language.

This could be their way back to relevancy. They messed up their tablet but that's a market they were never going to be a player in. I just hope they don't make obvious errors like poor cameras, dodgy battery optimisation or removal of micro sd

I have not been a huge fan of HTC of late. But companies can make turns for the better just like they can make turns for the worst, and Nexus devices tend to be good phones. As one of the earlier commenters pointed out, this could be a great launch-point for an HTC turnaround.

So, while this news doesn't exactly induce me into much excitement - beyond the general excitement any Nexus 2016 rumors news would generate, I'm also perfectly willing to keep a totally open mind and withhold any and all judgment on the matter until we can actually see what we're getting from the partnership.

    Cheers!

A partnership made in heaven. HTC phones are the best in terms of build, and Nexus software. No downside.

I'm glad somebody resurrected this nearly-four-month-old thread, otherwise I would've missed that article. Thanks to you, for posting it, quelquehomme, and thanks to murphcid for bumping the thread.

I think it will be a great combo. HTC, in my opinion, does a decent job with hardware/design; and Nexus is probably one of the greatest software elites for mobile devices. I feel like Nexus should partner up with every manufacturing company at least once (I know it's done a few already) - every manufacturer does a different spin on their Nexus and it's awesome. Can't wait!

You may have to wait longer if that 3-year-contract rumor has any legs. Like til 2019.
