Motion shot of my daughter. All on auto just added the stock black and white filter after the fact.
fantastic! motion shots of my kids was the reason i got an real camera (Canon T2I) because with all my previous phones this was impossible.

I can't deny that that lens blur looks pretty bad. Very unnatural and uneven; more like a smear on the lens than actual background blur. I know Google is trying to force bokeh but this is an awful way to do it.

I agree. Since we have the feature, why not try it out and see if I can perfect it.

I use lens blur sometimes on food. I find it very good when it's a smaller object closer to you. Never use it on a person or a car before.

Appropriate bokeh occurs when you have a specific maximum distance between the lens and the subject and a specific minimum distance between your subject and the background. Macro shots are good for this because the lens is very close to the subject, reducing the minimum distance required for the background. When your subject is farther away from the lens, the background needs to be farther away. And these things change depending on your focal length and aperture size. Zoom lenses "compress" the distances and exaggerate things in a way that you can get great bokeh with average sized apertures from a longer distance from your subject, whereas shorter distances requires a wider aperture and a greater distance between subject and backgound.

I really like how this one turned out--how it dealt with the lighting is great, even in the shadows!

Here are a few random pics from my first day.

One is a well lit outdoor shot (restaurant) in which the Pixel actually made the scene even better looking with it's HDR work in terms of color saturation and appearance. I prefer that look quite a lot.

One is an indoor macro-ish shot (of the T-rex) and I was impressed with the color balance based on the various types of lighting that were going on in that location.

One is an outdoor macro simply to see how the bokeh and colors looked in the background and I am very satisfied.

One is an indoor room that had a less-than-ideal amount of ambient light coming in from a window (stormtrooper helmet and armor crate) and I am amazed at how great this looks based on the actual scene.

And, finally, an obligatory puppy pic where the lighting is just barely acceptable to me from a photographic point of view but in which the Pixel caught a great looking shot of a very active pup.

Needless to say, I'm extremely satisfied so far with the camera's capability and it's speed. A little more time with it and I'll know exactly how far I can go with it but I'm delighted to know that the limits have been greatly stretched for me with this device.

Haven't really taken too many pics. The pictures look pretty good. I do Have the lens flare issue if the lighting is a little off. So far I think the quality if pretty solid though.

So, here is a night shot with an outside light on. First one is from my Galaxy S6 a few days prior to the Pixel, and the second is with the Pixel. I was very happy with the S6 camera, but I think I like the Pixel even more. I thought it was an interesting comparison of poor lighting, and the difference in processing seems apparent. The texture on the tree seems to have more detail with the Pixel shot.
