I've read on other forums that people have gotten this to work successfully. I've tried what they suggested, but I am still unable to see my voicemail inbox from within Google voice.

I was able to get Google Voice voicemail configured with Verizon by going to the Voice website (voice.google.com). There is a setting for the voicemail. Clicking on it gives you a number to call on your Verizon phone. By calling that number, it forwards calls from Verizon voicemail to Google Voice voicemail.

I believe he is referring to it being used natively. During installation of the app when you go thru the steps to set up, it asks if you want to use GV as a direct voicemail but if you say yes it says it's blocked by the carrier. Basically it's the same as the product Verizon used to try and get you to pay for( visual voicemail premium or something). So they blocked Google's free version.

I have read that an update or overhaul was done to the UI, but I have not been about to experience that website or app. I had hoped after this update and with the pixel being Verizon's best bud we would get it natively.

I just set this up again, but did not get it to work. I have used it on Verizon in the past. When I get a little more free time, I may work on it to see if I can get it working again.

I have had numerous issues with verizon and voicemail. I have been a long time google voice user and absolutely love it when able. I have been, in the past able to get it to work but that was a long time ago. I believe when I had my S3, but can't remember. At one point it stopped working and I had issues dealing with many verizon tiered techs and the only solution they found was a forwarding process(no explanation of why it stopped working but it wasn't hard for me to figure they wanted me to pay for the same services I get for free).
Ironically, it wasn't until my pixel xl that I felt comfortable enough with stock voicemail. I still use 2 numbers (cell # and gv #) so full native use of the app and vm on the verizon side would be great.
I hear ads on the radio for business services like Grasshopper and laugh that GV does all that and more for free.
From my last joint with verizon's wonderful tiered ( or should it be teared) and even google's own pixel support I was told that verizon is getting rid (or already had) of visual voice or maybe the premium. I had hoped this phone would, at some point, open gv back up for full verizon support and native integration.

I just got my Pixel a few days ago and GV is working fine for me on Verizon. It was one of the first apps I installed since I prefer to use it for voicemail. I setup GV on Verizon a long time ago on another phone, and it has been easy to activate on every new phone I got since then. The Pixel was no exception.

Here's what the setup was like for me:

• Install the app
• Click through the setup prompts in the app
• Got a warning message saying that GV could not be automatically setup on my carrier
• The next prompt allowed me to select GV as my default VM app
• Setup was complete and GV is working flawlessly

So I can say that GV does work on the Pixel with Verizon, but if you weren't already using it on Verizon there may be some extra setup that you need to do online in the GV settings page. Since mine worked without any extra troubleshooting I'm afraid I can't offer better help than that. Let me know if you have any specific questions about my setup.

Same here. I got some kind of blocked/error/could not be setup up message but I went through with the install and Google Visual VM (transcribed messafe) works perfect. - I y regular VZ phone number, not my Google Phone number and incoming messages go through to my Google VM with transcription

So, I had noticed that the setup process is different now that the Google Voice app has been updated. I have also noticed that since then Hangouts fails to play the messages. I'm not sure if you need to go through through the three forwarding code steps but just in case, they are:

#1 *71 + your GV number
#2 *90 + your GV number
#3 *92 + your GV number

In the past once you did that you would have the option to choose GV as your voicemail service in the Phone app > Settings > Calls > Voicemail. However, since the latest GV app update that is no longer an option BUT when you choose "Your Carrier" your Google Voice number should be listed instead of *86. I'm still frustrated that my visual voicemail messages don't show up in the voicemail tab of the Google Phone app. Wtf

You might have to change *86 to your GV number manually in Setup once you've selected "Your Carrier" of it doesn't pop up for you. Enter your full GV number and digits only YES: XXXXXXXXXX NO: XXX-XXX-XXXX NO: XXX XXX XXXX NO: (XXX) XXX-XXXX

This just worked for me, on Verizon:

1) Go to voice.google.com (I used my desktop browser, haven't tried it on phone)
2) left hamburger menu -> Legacy Google Voice
3) Then, on legacy page ... upper right gear -> Settings
4) On the Phones tab, in the "Forwards calls to" section, choose or enter your phone. (This was already set up for me because I've done this in the past, so not sure what steps you may have to go through to have your Google Voice number there the first time.)
5) IF there is a link that says "Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone", maybe because you had it on a previous phone, click it and follow the instructions. If you change phones you need to deactivate then reactivate GV voicemail.
6) There should be a link that says "Activate Google voicemail on this phone". Click it and follow the instructions.
7) Go to "Voicemail and Text" tab and setup your message.

Then give yourself a call from another phone and GV should answer, and you should get notified on your phone. (This assumes you've installed Google Voice app, natch.)

One big issue I have had is my missed calls going to Verizon's voicemail instead of Google voice. I have had to call Verizon and tell them to completely turn off there voicemail service for my line. I have had to do this after activating a new phone 2 times since it seems to get reactivated.

This was easy to follow, thanks. One problem that I have is that I cannot set up GV to be my default voicemail. I still have only option of "Service Provider" for voicemails, when I go to Setup under Default voicemail.
