The Pixel XL doesn't have a wide range of notification sounds, so I'm wondering if I can put the sounds from my old Nexus 6 on my Pixel XL.

You should be able to. I would place them in a separate folder. It may take the device a few minutes to find the folder to access the sounds. A reboot might force a rescan of the folders.

Thanks. I assume I'll need a file manager app to do this. Any suggestions?

The pixel has one built in. Settings>storage, and scroll down to explore. I'm not sure if it can do things like the ones in Play, but push comes to shove, connect to your PC and you should be able to create a new folder.
