why doesn't the pixel get the same LTE enhanced features that the pixel 2 has?

Part of the reason is it needs the Qualcom 835 SOC.

well the LG G6 has the same chip as the pixel and it has VOLTE and HD voice.

I get the LTE enhanced and HD voice on my Verizon XL. Have since the beginning. If I call someone else who has a Pixel or other compatible device the phone call screen shows HD and also an option to add video.

do you have the "enhanced 4g lte mode" switch in mobile network settings?

No, I have Advanced Calling on which gives me HD calling as well, plus Carrier Video Calling enabled. My phone was purchased through Verizon, but I'm not sure that makes a difference.

If you are on ATT, they won't activate it, only on the pixel 2. This is an att deal because we didn't get the phone from them.

I believe OP is talking about the Pixel on ATT. ATT says they will only activate it for Pixel 2. And then only VoLTE no VoWiFi.
